How to Create a Social Media Strategy for your Church
So you have opened a social media page for your church, the Lord is smiling down at you, a true child of God bent on spreading the gospel. But even the gospel can’t just start attracting people, even though it is God’s word and good news at the same time, you need a strategy to improve your engagement on social media. It is one thing to create social media, it is another to have a social media strategy, follow these steps to accomplish the goals you have set aside for your church, and provide you necessary information when creating social media for your church.
Create Social Media Goals
It’s a strategy, its incomplete without a goal/ you must have set a goal before you set up the social media page for your church, or is that not how it’s supposed to work, if its just to create an online presence for your church or allow people watch your live sessions and preaching or better still make your page a means of creating awareness when any event comes up in the church, whatever the goal may be you have to have one. And goals may seem farfetched, you have to stream your goals into SMART GOALS, for example let’s say your goal is “get more followers”. A smart version of that goal will be “get at least 2 new followers every day and 10 every week and 40 every month”. Now which is more accomplishable amongst the two and seems less overwhelming?
Whatever the goals you set, make sure it aligns with the church’s goals and make sure they solve a problem (whether long term or short term) that the church is experiencing.
Create Member Profiles
Build member profiles so you can know what sort of content to always create, a member profile can be created by studying the engagement your page and posts get from a particular demographic. For example, if you get lots of likes from 30-year-olds, be sure to study what they enjoy most from your content and this will help you know what sort of content to create more. Building a member profile will help you scale beyond the question of where your audience is and move onwards to identifying who your audience is.
Study Other Churches
The easiest way to get ahead of others in any niche is to study what everyone else is doing, note what they are doing, mirror who does it best, and deduce what they are not doing, of course, you cannot do it all, but you have to do some. And whoever you are studying, make sure you have a bunch of things in common.
Plan Out Tactics, Measure, Evaluate, and Repeat
Planning out tactics will help you carry out your strategies and in turn, help you attain your long-term goal. You can use a social media calendar to plan out your tactics and strategies. After executing your tactics, measure the results from each of the tactics and then evaluate them to know which you will stick to and which you will improve, the evaluation process will help you know if you are on track to hit your goals. Then repeat methods that provide the best results and start all over again.
